Florida Updates its Civics Curriculum to focus more on Patriotism
On Wednesday, October 20th of 2021, the State Board of Education in Florida approved a new rule concerning the overall education of civics in public schools.The new ruling allows for students to understand the nation's founding documents. This rule will also allow schoolchildren to have patriotic values. The ruling will make teachers give lessens about such things including communism and totalitarianism and the overall conflict of these ideals with freedom and democracy in the United States. Jacob Olivia- who is the Department of Education's chancellor stated that not only will there be updated standards concerning civics in the classroom, but there will also be new textbooks.
She also stated that the new curriculum will be represented on the exams at the end of the year of 2023-2024.
